Coconut oil has been used in skin care for centuries, and offers a unique combination of cleansing, firming, and moisturizing properties. That's a big reason why we chose to make it a main ingredient in all of our soaps (except Pure Cherub, our 100% olive oil bar).

Here are five of our favourite benefits of coconut oil for skin:

1. Helps skin retain moisture

Coconut oil can help reduce both dehydration and dryness by reducing transepidermal water loss and improving the skin's moisture barrier. This makes it an especially good choice for sensitive skin.

2. Absorbs quickly

Skin drinks up coconut oil quickly, which means your skin won't be left feeling greasy (just be careful not to overapply if using pure coconut oil!).

3. Antibacterial + anti-inflammatory

Coconut oil is the highest natural source of lauric acid, which research indicates may have antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.

4. Keeps skin clean

When used for cleansing, coconut oil wraps around dirt and dead skin cells so they are easily washed away.

5. Makes bath time more luxurious

When saponified (turned into a soap), coconut oil provides a rich lather, especially when combined with the other oils in our formulations.
